What does it mean to be a pagan?

You might look it up and find something like, “a person holding religious beliefs other than those of the main world religions.” It’s often tossed around as an umbrella term for all the beautiful, diverse beliefs that exist outside the confines of Christianity.

At its core, being pagan is all about earth-based devotion—a deep, heartfelt connection to nature and the cycles that shape our lives. Unfortunately, paganism has often been misunderstood, painted as something dark or demonic.

I’ve often wondered where that misconception came from, because it’s so far from the truth. How could honoring Mother Nature, celebrating her cycles, and embracing her beauty ever be seen as evil?

To me, worshipping both the divine goddess and god reflects a fundamental balance—we can’t have one without the other, and that’s where the magic of creation lies. And let’s talk about the cycles of womanhood. We have a power that has been undervalued for too long.

Yes, we can wield influence with just a wink, but in this day and age, it’s time to reclaim that power and celebrate it openly. For over two decades, I was in the "pagan broom closet," keeping my devotion under wraps for fear of judgment.

But now? I stand in my truth with pride. My devotion is woven into my everyday life—I don’t need a church to express it. I deeply respect those who find solace in traditional faiths, and I love learning from their experiences.

All I ask is for mutual respect; I don’t want to be labeled as “evil” for my beliefs. Imagine if we all lived more in tune with the earth, genuinely caring for our planet and each other.

Wouldn’t that inspire more compassion and understanding?

Paganism invites us to honor this connection, to recognize that we are all intertwined

At the end of the day, devotion isn’t about rules or rituals; it’s about love—love for the earth, for our fellow beings, and for the divine energy that flows through us all.

As we nurture these connections, we can step into a more harmonious existence, celebrating life in all its forms.

Let’s embrace our devotion and become the compassionate stewards our world so desperately needs.
