Embodiment Isn’t a Free-for-All: Why Your ‘Feeling’ Isn’t Always Enough

There’s a rising trend out there especially in the unregulated spaces of the healing, coaching, and spiritual industries where blanket statements are thrown around as truth. “Because I feel like that’s the way,” they say. Or, “It worked for me, so it must work for everyone.” And honestly? That’s dangerous.

There’s zero research behind so many of these statements. Yet we live in an age where followers will cling to a social media post or an unqualified soundbite as gospel, without an ounce of discernment or investigation.

If you are out here selling spaces, claiming to be holding deep work for others, then you have a responsibility. A real one. Especially if you're positioning yourself as a guide, healer, or leader.

I say this with love, and also with fire. Because I’ve been on both sides of this.

I was part of a business container that helped me stretch, expand, and finally give voice to the legacy that lives deep in my bones. My soul business one that was once stuck in my throat, choked by fear. Fear of being judged. Fear of speaking up. Fear of not fitting in.

And there was one teaching in that space that rubbed me raw every time it came up: “You don’t need certifications to do this work.” The claim was that pieces of paper don’t matter. That they’re just another system trying to keep us small. That if your soul is called go do the thing.

And while I understand the essence behind this especially for those of us reclaiming our voice and power after lifetimes of silencing I couldn’t swallow it wholesale.

Why? Because I do believe learning matters. I believe context matters. I believe you aren’t entitled to just have all the information at your fingertips. I believe in initiation. I believe in qualifications because that means you have really put in the work. I believe that if you’re working with people’s bodies, psyches, or trauma you need more than intuition and a download from your guides.

I went on a whole rollercoaster with that teaching. I let it stop me at times. But deep down, I knew: It’s both. Soul wisdom and studied knowledge. Lived experience and evidence based understanding. This is absolutely required especially when it comes to the body.

I’ve formally studied anatomy, physiology, somatic integration, and other somatic practices over many years. I’ve been in the trenches with clients, yes, but also in the books, in the gym, in the office, in the clinic. What I’ve learned is that the human body is sacred and scientific. Mysterious and measurable. You can’t just “feel” your way into someone’s nervous system and expect to be trauma-informed.

Somatics is the latest buzzword but many don’t know what it actually means. There are a lot of people teaching body-based practices with zero understanding of how the nervous system really functions, how trauma lands in tissue and our bones, or how movement impacts the endocrine system. That’s a red flag to me.

Because the body deserves more than guesswork. Your clients deserve more than vibes.

I’m sorry to say it but it’s scary how many people are out here holding space for others who are deep in trauma, pain, or physical dysregulation, with absolutely no training or understanding of what they’re doing. Just because someone thinks they can do it, just because they “feel called,” doesn’t mean they’re equipped. That’s not empowerment that’s recklessness.

These folks are dangerous. Not because they’re bad people but because they’re untrained people working in terrains that require care, skill, and deep responsibility. This is sacred work, and sacred work demands preparation. Especially when we’re navigating bodies that carry layers of lived trauma, systemic oppression, and emotional wounds.

Intuition is powerful. But it should never be used as a permission slip to bypass learning.

The body deserves more than guesswork. Your clients deserve more than vibes.

I love the intuitive path. I believe in magic and energy. I also believe in integrity. In depth. In being fit for this work. Spiritually, emotionally and yes, professionally.

If we truly want to serve, we can’t bypass the responsibility that comes with holding space for others. That includes doing our own inner work and continuing to study, learn, and evolve.

Science isn’t the enemy. It’s not static. It grows as we do. The body of science shifts and deepens as we understand more about ourselves. That’s the beauty of it it’s alive, just like us.

So no, I won’t throw out my certifications. I won’t dim my respect for evidence-based practices just because it’s trendy to rebel against structure.

I am rebellious but with roots.

I honour the health-based industry that taught me to see the body with reverence and rigor. I honour the healing world that showed me how to feel. I honour myself this wild witch in sneakers who walks both paths with fire, discernment, and devotion.

Because in the end, this work isn’t about being right. It’s about being responsible.
